An online school is an educational institution that delivers instruction primarily through the internet rather than in a traditional physical classroom. Students attend classes, complete assignments, and interact with teachers using 'Blackboard' and 'Zoom.'
Here at Sterling Learning Education, we teach English, Maths and Science at KS2, KS3 and KS4 as well as teaching the skills and knowledge required to sit the grammar school and private school entry tests (11+).
Zoom has been a faithful and leading contender in the teleconference arena for quite some time now. Here, we can teach, discuss and set tasks throughout the entire lesson. There is a whiteboard function, which allows live examples and screen sharing, where tasks are set live, misconceptions allayed and learning is done.
Blackboard Learn is used extensively within educational institutions from Primary settings to University establishments. On here, schoolwork and homework is set, and this provides a seamless solution two way discussion of marking, analytics and a clear diary of events. It is clear cut and easy to use.
The name simply refers to the age group, to which the child belongs, when they actually sit the exam. It happens in the first few months within the start of year 6, when the child is in the 10-11 year old age group.
This is a two hour exam, which is set to judge a child's academic and intellectual abilities. Maths and English skills are always tested, and some exam boards will also assess writing ability via a short set task. Most exam boards will also combine Non-Verbal reasoning and Verbal Reasoning questions into the papers. There are various exam boards; the most common being GL and CEM.
Some parents have registered their child for the exam believing that the questions are non-biased based on the fact not all families can afford the luxury of a private tutor. Unfortunately, these children very rarely pass the exam without some previous exposure to the various question types and an understanding of techniques to answer them.
The earlier the better. Year 3 is ideal, year 4 is good and year 5 is a little risky but not impossible. Regardless of when your child starts, they would need to be strong academically with great resilience to manage, as well as focus on the content and homework requirements. This is not overwhelming, as long as parents understand their role in setting time aside most evenings for their child to work their way through given 11+ tasks.
Year 4 students will be given a two hour slot every Monday from 6.00-8.00pm.
Year 5 students require 4 hours of teaching weekly on Tuesday and Friday 6.30-8.30pm.
Zoom will be used as the communication media.
Homework will be set weekly on both IXL.com and Blackboard.
Our innovative curriculum is broadly in line with the British curriculum standards and more. We teach and assess all skills and knowledge required within Key Stage 2 and SATs preparation for year 6 students. Please open the curriculum tabs to discover the overview of teaching for this age group.
SATs stands for Standard Assessment Tests. They are assessments that measure children’s educational achievement in years 2 and 6 and are administered by primary schools. The aim of SATs is to judge a school's academic level and hold them to account for the attainment of their pupils and the progress they make. In the UK, the SATs are taken in the month of May for 4 days, and students usually receive their results in July. Students are tested on their Grammar, Spelling, Comprehension, Arithmetic, Reasoning skills and their writing abilities.
Secondary schools are told their incoming pupils’ scaled scores. Many secondary schools use these to help with setting and streaming, as well as working out how to best teach their new cohort of year 7s. But secondary schools are mindful that SATs only measure ability in English and Maths (and only certain fragments of those subjects) and consequently most do their own tests on year 7s too.
It depends entirely on the child's academic strength in English and Maths. There is a lot of undue stress, anxiety and sometimes even panic surrounding this exam, which
Not at all. Throughout years 3 to 6, all students will learn the skills required to make them competent mathematicians and English writers, speakers and readers. Teaching will be adapted to suit each student's level of competency and will adapt according to their intellectual growth.
The start of KS3 is the foundational learning for the final exams in year 11 - the GCSEs. Please refer to the curriculum section within the tabs so you can download and understand the content of the subject learning schedule. You will observe the content for Maths, Science and English that will be taught by a teacher from Sterling Learning Education. All teachers are qualified with a suitable teaching qualification and experienced in their arena of teaching and subject content.
GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education and provides an academic qualification in different subject areas. They are an essential step for students as they provide a foundation for higher education and career development.
In most UK schools, students choose their GCSE options in Year 9 and typically begin their courses in Year 10. This usually lasts for two years, with exams taking place at the end of Year 11 – the final year of secondary school. However, some schools may offer the option to choose subjects in Year 8 and some will give students the chance to sit their exams early in Year 10.
The GCSE period is crucial for students as it shapes their academic journey and influences their future educational and career paths.
